Methodology — how this tool estimates Temu / Shein landed cost
This page documents what the Temu / Shein Tariff Impact Checker actually does, what it explicitly does not do, and when you should use it versus a paid customs broker.
Official product rates, not category averages
Select a product that matches its description, or enter its 8-digit tariff code or a covered 10-digit statistical code. The short list covers clothing and lip make-up; it is not a sales ranking or a classification of every item sold by Temu, Shein or AliExpress. Material, construction and intended use can change the classification. Check the linked HTS entry before using a rate.
| Product | HTS code | General rate |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton T-shirt Knitted or crocheted cotton T-shirts, singlets and tank tops; not babies’ garments. | 6109.10.00 | 16.5% |
| Cotton sweater / pullover Knitted or crocheted cotton sweaters and pullovers, with less than 36% flax by weight; not babies’ garments. | 6110.20.20 | 16.5% |
| Women’s / girls’ synthetic-fibre dress Woven (not knitted) synthetic-fibre dresses, with less than 36% wool or fine animal hair by weight. | 6204.43.40 | 16% |
| Lipstick / lip make-up Lip make-up preparations, not medicinal products. | 3304.10.00 | Free |
Enter the goods customs value for one code and manufacturing origin. Duty is that value multiplied by the general rate plus each applicable additional rate, with each duty line rounded to cents. Mixed carts need separate calculations. No value is prefilled and no unverified code or origin is treated as duty-free.
Which additional tariffs are included?
For China, the clothing lines use Section 301 heading 9903.88.15 (7.5%); lip make-up uses 9903.88.03 (25%). The product lists and exclusions are in USITC Chapter 99, note 20. The four listed ordinary retail products are not in the applicable exclusion lists checked for this snapshot.
The forced-labor Section 301 duty adds 12.5% for China and Vietnam and 10% for India. Japan and South Korea are topped up to a combined general plus forced-labor rate of 12.5%; when the general rate is already at least 12.5%, this additional duty is zero. These rules come from CBP CSMS 69326983 and USITC Chapter 99, note 52. The shortlist has been checked against its general product exclusions. These percentages are not a substitute for checking another product.
IEEPA duties are not added: CBP ended their collection on 24 February 2026. The temporary Section 122 surcharge ended on 24 July 2026 under its published time limit. This calculator covers the current verified snapshot only, not historical entries or future changes.
What the estimate includes and leaves out
The receipt shows duty and goods plus duty before other charges. Shipping, sales tax, Merchandise Processing Fees, brokerage and carrier collection charges are excluded. They depend on the entry and delivery arrangements, so this is not a complete landed-cost quote or an amount you necessarily still owe. Check whether the marketplace already collected duty.
Only the general tariff is calculated. Preferential trade-agreement claims, Chapter 98 relief, special-use exemptions, antidumping and countervailing assessments are outside this ordinary retail-goods calculation. Do not use it for goods needing one of those treatments. CBP determines classification and final duty at entry; a seller’s location is not proof of manufacturing origin.
Sources were read on . A visible notice remains above the receipt. After 14 days, from , the calculator withholds a current result until the data is checked again. There is no automatic live refresh or guaranteed update schedule. An unavailable or invalid date also produces no estimate.
All calculations run in your browser. An unknown code, origin or expired snapshot returns no monetary result. This independent educational tool is not affiliated with CBP, Temu, Shein or AliExpress and does not provide customs, legal or tax advice.
